Google Headquarters
A roof garden on a grand scale providing a wealth of activities set within thriving nature
King's Cross, London, UK

Google sought an expansive rooftop for its 1 million sqft new headquarters in King's Cross to boost employee wellbeing and innovation. We responded with a biodiverse garden that promotes physical activity, wellbeing and social connections.
As the appointed landscape architect, Gillespies is delivering the roof garden design and public realm for Google’s landmark new headquarters in King’s Cross, London.
This 1 million sq ft development, the first wholly owned and designed Google building outside the United States, will form part of a wider Google campus capable of accommodating up to 7,000 employees.
Designed to promote wellbeing, biodiversity, and collaboration, Gillespies’ landscape strategy includes a 300-metre-long rooftop garden featuring open lawns, wildflower meadows, large trees, and a 200-metre “trim trail” to encourage movement and physical activity. The garden incorporates flexible social and event spaces, grow gardens, and movable planters to accommodate evolving user needs.
The project showcases Gillespies’ expertise in BIM modelling for landscape architecture, delivering a highly coordinated digital model to support efficient, multidisciplinary collaboration.
In addition to the rooftop, Gillespies is enhancing the public realm design at street level, creating a welcoming and accessible environment that contributes to the wider King’s Cross regeneration and the Knowledge Quarter’s growing innovation economy.
