View project intro

Gillespies has been appointed to deliver a significant and innovative rooftop garden for Google’s new purpose-built 11-storey headquarters in King's Cross. The building, designed by Heatherwick Studio and Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), will feature a natural theme, with all materials sourced through Google’s healthy materials programme. BDP is the design delivery architect for the project.

This new building, combined with the current building at 6 Pancras Square and an additional third building, will create a Google campus with the potential to house 7,000 Google employees. The new building is being developed from the ground up and will contribute to the Knowledge Quarter and King’s Cross’s growing knowledge-based economy.

The roof will be covered in a 300-meter-long garden, divided into different zones including opens lawn, wooden decking, a wild meadow, large trees, and a 200-meter “trim trail” for runners. The roof garden will provide a flexible space for Googlers with performance spaces, grow gardens and moveable planters to ensure it can facilitate changing space requirements.
