20 Fenchurch Street: Images of new the Sky Garden revealed

Images have just been revealed of the new "Sky Garden" for 20 Fenchurch Street in the City of London.

The innovative new tower at 20 Fenchurch Street, designed by Rafael Vinoly architects, includes a new public space that will become London's tallest public park - a striking architectural space on top of the tower overlooking the Thames to the south and the City to the north.

In an interview for the London Evening Standard on the landscape design of the Sky Garden, Stephen Richards, Partner at Gillespies who is leading the landscape design team comments:

"The gardens will be unique in London, the largest and most exciting of their kind. It will be like being in an eyrie. There will be a series of platforms where there will be seating so you will be able to immerse yourself in plants and colour while still being aware that you are very high up to get that sense of a floating garden."

The planting of the terraced Sky Garden will be dominated by drought resistant Mediterranean and South African flowers, shrubs and ferns, compatible with the greenhouse-effect of the domed glass summit of the 38 storey tower.

Gillespies' role within the team is also to capture a high quality de-cluttered setting for the building at street level, including a new pocket park.
