Gillespies has created a vibrant new public square for LSE’s Centre Building that has become the focal point of the campus, improving connectivity across the site and providing much-needed open space for the enjoyment of students, teachers and visitors.
Located at the northern end of Houghton Street, the new square acts as a focal point for the campus, improving connectivity and wayfinding across the site, and providing an open space for students, staff and visitors to enjoy.
A series of contemporary granite planters and benches provide plenty of opportunities for social interaction and knowledge exchange. The square is complemented by two lushly planted roof terraces that extend the LSE’s internal environment, providing additional informal space for students and staff to interact and enjoy the spectacular views across London’s skyline surrounded by nature.
