A high-quality rural landscape setting for the state-of-the-art Dyson headquarters in Malmesbury, successfully marrying the sites' rural character with the more formal qualities of a contemporary corporate HQ.
In 2012, Dyson commissioned architects WilkinsonEyre to propose a new masterplan that would extend their existing Headquarters in Malmesbury to provide a new research and development campus. This extension also provided the ideal opportunity to create a new, dynamic landscape setting that would encourage social interaction and prioritise privacy.
The landscape strategy by Gillespies responds to the rural character of the site and the campus-style grid established in the architectural masterplan by creating a hierarchy of ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ landscape spaces. These external spaces, which include large lawn areas suitable for informal games of football and café ‘spill-out plazas, are connected by a network of high-quality pedestrian links that improve navigation across the site and activate key landscape spaces, creating a vibrant campus‑style setting that facilitates social interaction.
