Warrington Bridge Street Quarter regeneration project gets go-ahead
The regeneration of Warrington's Bridge Street Quarter has been granted planning approval by Warrington Borough Council.
The mixed-use scheme - which will include a new market hall at the heart of the site - will also provide a cinema, several restaurants, new council offices and a new public square.
The regeneration of the public realm for Bridge Street Quarter provided Gillespies an opportunity to create a unique and exciting public open space that would complement and enhance the new development and the surrounding public realm. The new public realm consists of a network of new streets, routes and open spaces that will work together to encourage social activity, interaction and investment, but above all, will provide a great place for people to live, work and play.
At the heart of the proposed public realm scheme is a new public square - a multifunctional space which surrounds the new indoor market building and which caters for events, gatherings and outdoor/ Christmas markets.
The work includes temporarily moving the new market to a new site before the opening of the new market hall in 2018. The new market will sit behind the grade II-listed former Boots building facade.
