The economic impact of The Piece Hall in Halifax revealed

Once facing demolition, The Piece Hall now stands as a powerful demonstration of what heritage-led regeneration can deliver for places and communities. The decision to restore this extraordinary Georgian landmark has helped reshape the economic and cultural future of Halifax.

A new Economic Impact Assessment, commissioned by The Piece Hall Trust and undertaken by Counterculture Partnership LLP, reveals that over the past decade, the Piece Hall in Halifax has generated an estimated £680 million for the wider economy, and it is forecast to continue contributing around £90 million every year.

We are proud to have been at the heart of this transformation, delivering a landscape vision that has helped bring the Piece Hall back to life as a welcoming civic space.

Since reopening in 2015, The Piece Hall has supported thousands of jobs and welcomed more than 70 million visitors. Working closely with LDN Architects, who led the building’s restoration, our approach to the public realm unlocked the courtyard as a flexible and adaptable space. Today, it hosts major events, informal gatherings, markets and daily activity, reconnecting this historic place with its community.

The success of The Piece Hall shows how thoughtful design, collaboration and long-term vision can turn threatened heritage buildings into a driver of economic growth, social value and civic pride. It is a place once again alive with culture, commerce and community.
