Great Barn wins Regional Building Awards

The restored Great Barn at Bolton Abbey has won a suite of prestigious regional building awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Owned by the Bolton Abbey Estate, the refurbished building won the RIBA Yorkshire Special Award for Conservation and three RICS regional awards, including Overall Project of the Year. Gillespies' LVIA and detailed landscape design helped transform the Grade II* Listed Medieval Barn and Scheduled Monument into a magnificent wedding venue.

The RICS judges called the barn a “stand-out” winner and praised its transformation from a dusty, cluttered store into a single space, which reveals the “cathedral-like” roof structure and is now one of the finest wedding barn venues in the country.

Ben Heyes, Director of Bolton Abbey Estates, said, “We are thrilled to win. It took five years to do all the necessary research and planning work since the Barn is a Grade II* Listed Building and Scheduled Monument in a Conservation Area in a National Park. We are therefore endebted to Cripps, Historic England, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Lichfields, Pearce Bottomley Architects, Universal Projects and many others for their help and hard work.”
