Former landfill site is given new life as new waterside park with beautiful wetlands
A brand new country park, on the Wirral Coastal Path will officially open to the public on August 12th at 1.30pm. Alison McGovern MP will be formally cutting the ribbon and opening this fantastic new green space.
With its landscapes designed by Gillespies, Port Sunlight River Park has been created on the former Bromborough landfill site. The 28 hectare park is part of the Wirral Coastal Path and gives access to the River Mersey and views of the Liverpool skyline to visitors for the first time in over 20 years. People visiting the park will be able to enjoy unrivalled views of the stunning waterfront, and beyond, from the top of the 37 metre high mound. The site also boasts beautiful wetlands and a variety of flora, fauna and birds.
The opening of the park has been long awaited by many, not least local residents, who are thrilled that their views will now be enhanced by a stunning green, natural space, rather than the landfill site that they previously endured.
Organisations that have worked together to ensure the vision for Port Sunlight River Park becomes a reality. The partners are: The Land Trust; BIS; Forestry Commission; Biffa Waste; Wirral Borough Council; Gillespies; Unilever; Essar; United Utilities; Port Sunlight Village Trust; Woodland Trust and WSP Engineers.
