Gillespies developed the public realm masterplan for Woolwich's Crossrail station, creating cohesive connections between the station, Royal Arsenal, and town centre, while honouring the area's rich heritage.

The arrival of the Elizabeth Line at Woolwich marks a pivotal moment in the area's evolution, acting as a catalyst for regeneration and enhanced connectivity. Gillespies' public realm masterplan intricately weaves the new Crossrail station into the existing urban fabric, linking it seamlessly with the historic Royal Arsenal, Dial Arch Square, and the bustling town centre
Central to the design is the creation of an inviting, pedestrian-friendly environment. A generous station forecourt extends along the eastern side of Dial Arch Square, paved with high-quality natural stone to ensure durability and aesthetic appeal. This step-free space offers clear, logical routes that guide pedestrians effortlessly between key destinations.
Complementing the forecourt, a thoughtfully designed threshold leads to the verdant lawn of Dial Arch Square. This transitional space features seating, signage, and new tree plantings, providing areas for relaxation and social interaction while enhancing the green character of the square.
