This previously deprived district, located in East London, looked beyond its London 2012 legacy to its future role as a leading residential and business hub, with the aim of attracting investment.

As part of this long-term strategy, Gillespies was commissioned to prepare a public realm strategy for Stratford City known as The International Quarter Stratford City. This portion of the overall scheme benefits from direct connections to a major rail hub, and the Olympic legacy site with its strong open space network.

With its expertise in developing city‑scale masterplans, Gillespies prepared guidelines for a sequence of open spaces appropriate for a leading commercial centre, with the emphasis on sustainability. Working alongside lead architect Arup Associates the team delivered a series of design codes to provide a framework for nurturing the growth of this exciting and dynamic area.
