Jim's bio
Jim Gibson is Regional Partner at Gillespies’ Manchester studio and a Chartered Landscape Architect with over 30 years of experience. He leads the studio’s business operations and heads the firm’s landscape and environmental planning services across the North of England.
Jim has extensive experience in landscape planning, strategic masterplanning, and landscape architecture for major residential, commercial, and infrastructure developments.
As a registered assessor with the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), Jim is a specialist in delivering Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA) for nationally significant infrastructure projects. His portfolio spans energy infrastructure, transmission lines, renewable energy schemes, wind farms, pipelines, highways, airports, and large-scale urban expansions, all requiring sensitive environmental integration.
Jim is passionate about embedding sustainability and climate resilience into project delivery. He has played a leading role in shaping Gillespies’ response to carbon reduction in landscape design and has been driving the firm’s internal carbon assessment protocols.
His leadership was central to the regeneration of Salford Quays into MediaCityUK, a globally recognised mixed-use district that showcases how sustainable landscape planning and public realm design can support long-term environmental and social goals. Most recently, he oversaw the delivery of Mayfield Park, the first new city-centre park to be created in Manchester for over 100 years, and the design and delivery of a high-quality public realm for Rochdale Town Hall.
