Alan's bio
Alan Nowell is a Chartered Landscape Architect with over 20 years of experience in the analysis, planning, and design of landscapes for both public and private sector clients. Based in Gillespies’ Leeds studio, Alan has a strong track record delivering landscape architecture across the North of England and beyond. His background spans roles in multinational environmental consultancies and private design practices, bringing broad expertise in urban regeneration, residential masterplanning, historic landscape restoration, infrastructure design, and flood alleviation schemes.
Since joining Gillespies in 2019, Alan has contributed to projects at a range of scales, from conceptual masterplans in the Middle East to detailed design and implementation in the UK. Regionally, he has played a key role in the delivery of landscape design and public realm at Wellington Place in Leeds, supported Bolton Council’s Public Realm Towns Fund bid, authored Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) chapters for major infrastructure projects, and led the design and delivery of landscape and public realm works at Globe Road and Latitude Purple B, two major build-to-rent developments in Leeds’ South Bank.
Alan also supports the next generation of landscape professionals through his role on the Professional Review Group for Leeds Beckett University, where he represents the Landscape Institute and acts as a critical friend to the university’s landscape architecture academic team.
