Plans submitted for a new holiday development in West Wicklow

Gillespies has submitted a planning application to Wicklow County Council for the development of a new holiday village in the heart of Baltinglass, a rural town in Ireland.

The 5 million euro scheme aims to transform Baltinglass into a major tourism destination through the delivery of a 2.4-hectare woodland retreat, complete with 44 holiday lodges and bell tents with their own private decks and hot tubs, a visitor centre, café, play areas; water-based activities, an Alpaca paddock, and boardwalks.

Gillespies worked alongside tourism specialists Bluesail to create a landscape-led masterplan that establishes strong links between the holiday village and the town centre, helping to generate inward investment and supporting local businesses through increased footfall across the town centre.

The River Slaney will become a key feature within the site, used for kayaking and fishing while the entire site will be planted with native trees and wild flowers, sympathetic with the surroundings.

A planning decision is expected on 29 July 2020.
