Planning granted for Fulham Riverside West, scheme for 475 new homes on the Thames

Gillespies has designed the landscape masterplan and external public realm for this pioneering residential scheme on a brownfield site along the Thames in London's Fulham.

Gillespies worked alongside Harper Downie Architects who have designed a series of buildings for Fulham Riverside West, that take advantage of its riverside setting and expansive views. To complement the location and the wide range of uses of this site, Gillespies designed a number of distinct spaces that respond to their residential, office or retail context.

Planning officers at Hammersmith & Fulham Council commented that:  "The proposal represents a high quality development which would make a positive contribution to the riverside, providing a vibrant new urban quarter in this part of the Borough."

The site forms part of the Thames Riverside Walk and this connectivity is key in ensuring the development is active and well-used. Strong legible lines of public permeabilitiy connect the river to the wider community and bring this stretch of the Thames back to the public.

As well as residential units, future plans for the site by developer Fulham Riverside West Partnership (FRWP) include office space and a riverside piazza with restaurants and retail units.
