Michael De Wet promoted to Partner

Leading international landscape architecture, urban design and planning consultancy Gillespies has promoted Michael De Wet to the position of Partner, bringing the total number of Partners in the firm to ten.

Michael De Wet joined Gillespies’ Oxford studio in 2015 as an Associate. He was promoted to Senior Associate in 2018, and one year later became an Associate Partner.

Since joining the firm, he has played an integral role in the growth and development of the London and Oxford studio’s landscape and masterplanning offer across the Middle East, bolstering the practice’s portfolio and leading its design and delivery teams on a range of high-profile, complex projects across the MENA region.

With almost 20 years of experience in landscape design, Michael has a proven track record of delivering contemporary landscapes for ground-breaking international

resorts and mixed-use developments, as well as orchestrating landscape masterplans for high-profile tourism destinations within the MENA region. He has also worked on a wide variety of large residential and recreational schemes across all four major regions of the world.

Career highlights include the design and delivery of an expansive waterfront park on Saadiyat Island as part of the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi, an ecological landscape for the King Salman Park International competition - the largest urban park in the world, several large-scale landscape-led masterplans and public realm schemes, a new tourism hub and airport along the Red Sea, and several high-profile tourism developments and resorts across the wider MENA region.

Jim Diggle, a Managing Partner at Gillespies, said; “It’s a pleasure to confirm Mike as a Partner - a just reward for his enterprising and creative approach to working on projects and with clients across the MENA region and beyond. We look forward to our continued working together, championing design and technical quality on high profile schemes internationally.’

This latest promotion follows the recent announcement of Adam Greatrix’s elevation to Partner in the Leeds studio. These two promotions will strengthen the Partnership team as we look toward the future and grow our practice.
