Gillespies delivers a delightful 'English' garden for residents at Polyanka 44, Moscow

Gillespies has recently designed and overseen the delivery of a private courtyard garden space for Polyanka 44, an exclusive residential development in central Moscow for leading Russian developer PSN Group.

Gillespies has created a generous and tranquil 'English garden' with picturesque seating areas and green pathways that offers residents a tranquil oasis and welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the nearby city centre.

Influenced by the character and environment of a natural woodland, the design transposes these elements into a city garden. Classical elements of landscape, hills, streams and woodland are referenced within the delightful garden space, inviting residents to enjoy the environment all year round, with opportunities for play, socialising, relaxation and escape, all immediately accessible from the surrounding apartments. The informal, organic shapes and lines of the garden create an immersive experience, offering visual interest that belies the physical constraints of the site. Carefully managed site levels create a feeling of intimacy and enclosure in smaller spaces, in contrast to the more generously scaled social area, capable of hosting events and accommodating a range of play opportunities for children of all ages.

At the heart of the garden, starting from the higher ground at the western end of the courtyard, a water feature alternates between the animation of bubbling jets and the calm of a generous reflecting pool. From the pool a narrow water channel meanders alongside a pathway that runs the length of the garden, passing by the play area and various seating spaces towards the feature Belvedere building – a unique and delightful feature that truly sets the garden apart in the Moscow landscape.

Oliver Smith, Partner at Gillespies, commented: "When developing the landscape design response, we paid very close attention to the quality of design and material selection. It was important for us to create a space that would offer the residents a place of sanctuary, that enhances their wellbeing and quality of life for many years to come. I think we have succeeded in delivering a project that is of exceptional quality that rivals the best in luxury real estate in Moscow."
