Four Civic Trust awards for Paddington and Woolwich Elizabeth line stations

Paddington and Woolwich Elizabeth line stations received four awards at the 64th Civic Trust Awards ceremony on 31 March. Each received a Civic Trust Award, and a Special Award for Transportation & Infrastructure.

The special award is presented to an exceptional new or upgraded major infrastructure project that has transformed the civic realm and has a demonstrable qualitative effect on its context and environment.

The judges said that Paddington station is “a wonderfully exciting addition to the transport infrastructure of London. It is impressive, beautifully designed, and easy to travel in and find one’s way about.” They described Woolwich station as “a modern infrastructure marvel of London which enables and connects new communities in the capital."

Other special award winners were the LSE Marshall Building, Lyth Building at Nottingham University, Andermatt Concert Hall in Switzerland, the Burrell Collection in Glasgow and the Glade of Light in Manchester.

We were invited to attend the awards dinner in the Marshall Building by client Weston Williamson + Partners. It was attended by around 300 architects, council leaders and built environment professionals.

Rob Naybour, CEO at Weston Williamson + Partners, said: “Paddington and Woolwich stations are testament to the hard work and determination of the WW+P team, our clients, collaborators and many beyond.”
