Public consultation launches for MetroGreen in Gateshead

We’re pleased to be supporting Gateshead Council on MetroGreen Area Action Plan (AAP) and teaming up with Mott MacDonald in bringing forward proposals for a new 525-acre mixed-use development near the Metrocentre, which is now open for public consultation until 7 November.

The proposals aim to deliver around 1,000 new homes in short and medium term with further provision of over 800 new homes in long term, extensive green spaces, a hotel, up to 275,000 sq ft of leisure space and a network of active travel routes including a continuous riverside route along the River Tyne and River Derwent. Improved pedestrian and cycle routes, high-quality public spaces and upgraded transport links will make this an inclusive, well-connected and vibrant place to live, work and visit.

Our role focuses on creating sustainable and walkable new neighbourhoods, with a comprehensive green infrastructure network that will connect the new and existing neighbourhoods, integrating open spaces with sustainable water and flood management systems, enhancing biodiversity and promoting active travel.

Identified in the Gateshead Local Plan as a priority brownfield site, the area will be transformed into a sustainable and resilient community. The Area Action Plan, now out for consultation, sets out how the council will coordinate delivery across multiple landowners, paving the way for phased development from 2031 and a long-term vision through to 2045.
