Oxford's Westgate Centre to be redeveloped
Designs for the redevelopment of Oxford's have just been unveiled at a public exhibition.
The revamp of this 1970s-built shopping centre and surrounding district is set to include around 100 shops and 122 homes, as well as a cinema, eateries and a car park. Permission to transform this shopping centre was granted in March 2014.
Gillespies is part of the design team, designing a new high quality public realm for the Westgate redevelopment, and integrating it into the wider city of Oxford. The other members of the design team are BDP Architects, Allies & Morrison, Dixon Jones, Glenn Howells and Panter Hudspith, and the site is being redeveloped by the Westgate Alliance.
The project aims to create a world-class retail and leisure destination for the city of Oxford. The detailed designs will form part of a planning application due for submission later this year. The redevelopment is expected to be completed by 2017.
