Workspace at King's Cross Judd Street gets planning permission

Native Land has obtained planning permission to develop a cutting edge lab-enabled workspace in King’s Cross at Judd Street, WC1.

We're very proud of our designs for the public realm as part of this exciting project - thank you to James Gregory, Wanmo Qin and Sena Ozdemir for their valuable contribution to the project.

The five-storey, 57,000 sq ft building will be repositioned to cater to the growing life sciences and technology sector. It will run entirely on electricity, targeting a BREEAM Outstanding rating. The refurbishments will seek to outperform the RIBA and LETI 2030 goals for embodied carbon with target emissions of 250-300kg CO2E/sq m.

The building's redesign was by Stiff + Trevillion Architects. Native Land will act as development manager for the project, which is a joint venture between AshbyCapital and Montrose Land.

The site was acquired in January 2021 from the Royal National Institute of Blind People. It is in an area of King's Cross called the 'knowledge quarter' - near the Francis Crick Institute, Wellcome, UCL, British Library, Alan Turing Institute and British Medical Association. The King's Cross area of London has been transformed over the past decade or so, and continues to evolve and develop as one of the most interesting and exciting parts of the capital.
