A vibrant civic square at the heart of a distinctive new leisure quarter in the centre of Warrington, offering spaces for cultural and civic activities.
Time Square in Warrington’s Bridge Street Quarter is a £107 million retail and leisure-led development designed to enhance the existing town centre and welcome a diverse mix of leisure and retail facilities alongside a vibrant public square. The development includes a new cinema and leisure complex, indoor market, multi-storey car park, and a new civic headquarters for Warrington Borough Council.
The overall vision for the scheme was to create a lively, safe and distinctive new leisure quarter for Warrington, in which people will want to visit and enjoy all of the leisure and social activities on offer.
Gillespies’ role was to develop landscape proposals for the new public realm associated with the various new developments. Proposals needed to complement the new development as well as sensitively integrate with the existing townscape. At the heart of the scheme, we have created a new public square - a multifunctional space that surrounds the new indoor market and caters to events, gatherings, and outdoor markets. A network of streets, routes and open spaces encourages social activity, interaction and investment.
