The Green Quarter

Gillespies designed the public realm around each of the buildings, including the landscaped podium above a new basement car park. Several semi‑private courtyards provide secure green space for residents and visitors, alongside a network of safe cycle paths and walkways that improve connections to the bordering Minet Country Park and the Grand Union Canal. The landscape design references and complements the rich culture and heritage of Southall.

The Green Quarter has transformed the former Southall gasworks. What was an 88-acre brownfield site in the London borough of Ealing is now a residential-led mixed-use scheme, creating a sustainable diverse residential and commercial offer for Southall.

The Green Quarter creates a new mixed-use destination comprising some 3,750 new homes, along with up to 500,000 square feet of commercial space and three hectares of landscaped public realm and parkland. Over half the site is dedicated to open space, which includes a substantial amount of public parklands, leisure and play spaces and piazzas.

St James West London became Berkeley Homes (Southall) Limited in 2017. It is now part of St George City Limited, part of Berkeley Homes Group. The Green Quarter is part of one of the biggest regeneration projects in west London, transforming the former gasworks and overflow airport car park into a sustainable, unique and nature-rich place where communities thrive.
