Gillespies was appointed to lead the landscape design for Phase 1 of The Green Quarter in Southall, a major regeneration project transforming the former Southall Gasworks into a new nature-led neighbourhood.

The Green Quarter is one of London’s most ambitious regeneration projects, transforming the former Southall Gasworks into a vibrant, nature-rich neighbourhood with around 3,750 new homes, significant commercial space and extensive public realm. Designed around wellbeing and biodiversity, the scheme reintegrates nature into urban living with parks, wetlands, improved canal paths and easy access to the adjacent 90-acre Minet Country Park, ensuring that every home has green space at its doorstep.

More than half of the site is dedicated to open space, creating generous public parks, play areas, leisure spaces and piazzas that serve as social focal points within the new community. The scale of landscape and public realm work responds to the site’s heritage and its long-term role as a mixed use destination anchored by the Elizabeth line at Southall Crossrail station.
