Terminal Three, Taoyuan Airport, Taiwan
A new airport terminal Inspired by Taiwan’s varied landscape
Taipei, Taiwan

A rich and multi-functional landscape setting for the new Terminal 3 building at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Taiwan’s diverse and dramatic natural landscape serves as a rich source of inspiration for the spaces surrounding the airport buildings.
Gillespies has designed the dramatic external spaces for Taiwan’s new airport, complementing the terminal building, boarding gates, and concourses designed by RSHP.
Our landscape design draws inspiration from Taiwan’s stunning natural scenery, seamlessly integrating nature with functionality to enhance the passenger experience.
Near the terminal, deep ravines are stylised into terraced forms reminiscent of hillside paddy fields. The topography has been transformed into functional stepped landscapes, with planting pockets embedded within vertical walls to introduce greenery and soften the built environment.
The terminal plazas evoke mountain top landscapes, where clusters of tall trees flourish in a challenging environment. These trees not only define movement routes from the plaza to the terminal but also create shaded spaces for relaxation amidst art installations and retail areas.
Inside the terminal, integrated planting enhances travellers' well-being by improving air quality, providing natural cooling, and adding visual interest.
