Riga Waterfront

Reimagining Riga's historic Port

Riga, Latvia

The Riga Waterfront is a transformative masterplan led by Hosoya Schaefer, with Sarma Norde and FaulknerBrowns for Eagle Hills, that reimagines Riga's historic port as a vibrant, mixed-use district shaped to support Riga’s future growth and resilience.

Reconnecting Riga with its riverfront

Located along the Daugava River, this ambitious mixed-use masterplan reimagines Riga’s relationship with its waterfront, unlocking a major new urban quarter that blends culture, commerce, and community with bold sustainability ambitions.

At the heart of the masterplan is a nature-led approach, enhancing the city’s relationship with its waterfront through high-quality public spaces, walkable neighbourhoods, and a dynamic mix of uses that support a thriving urban environment.

A human-scale public realm

Gillespies is responsible for the overarching public realm vision — one that places people, nature, and culture at the heart of the transformation

Our approach prioritises sustainable urbanism, embedding a green and blue infrastructure that promotes biodiversity, manages climate impacts, and creates a rich sequence of open spaces and waterfront environments.

The masterplan blends residential, commercial, and cultural uses with a carefully crafted human-scale public realm that promotes walkability, inclusivity, and year-round activation. From neighbourhood parks and civic squares to lively river promenades, our visionary design ensures the waterfront becomes a place for all—welcoming residents, workers, and visitors alike.
