Jubilee Square is an exemplary new public space in the heart of Woking that has transformed the town's retail offering. The previously tired square has been dramatically reinvented through a £7m overhaul, providing a new high quality plaza together with spill-out cafes and improved connections.
Jubilee Square is the first phase of the wider redevelopment of Woking's two centre. Gillespies' design for the square responds to the opportunities presented by the redevelopment of Woking's two enclosed retail centres — The Peacocks and Wolsey Place — which both face onto the new urban space.
The completed design has transformed what had previously been a faded public space into a vibrant square, comprising high quality restaurants and outdoor seating, new paving, amphitheatre seating, landscaping, and enhanced retail outlets.
Since the square's opening in 2012, a large number of leading UK retailers have relocated to Jubilee Square, supporting the revival of the town’s retail experience.
Gillespies is currently redesigning Commercial Way, a key shopping street adjoining Jubilee Square.
