Glasgow Harbour

Considered one of the largest waterfront regeneration projects in the UK, Glasgow Harbour is the creation of an entirely new district within the West End of Glasgow, providing a rich mix of high-quality commercial, residential, retail, leisure and public open space.

The 130-acre site consisted of mostly redundant docklands which have now been transformed into a new urban quarter, with around 40% of the site dedicated to public space in the form of urban squares, green spaces and connections.

Gillespies was commissioned to develop the masterplan and implement designs for all public spaces including the 11-acre public park and Riverside Walkway — a 3km riverside walk and cycleway running along the Clyde and Kelvin waterfront. Gillespies also contributed to improvements to new public transport and interchange link connections, cycling routes, quayside activities, safe routes to schools and other leisure activities.

The regeneration of the waterfront has drawn people back to the River Clyde, which was once both the economic heart of Glasgow.
