The design for Elephant Park MP3 creates a sequence of attractive, permeable landscaped spaces which link Elephant Park to New Kent Road.

The public realm design reflects the ethos of the wider masterplan – vibrant, green and inherently playful spaces that encourage activity and engagement and contribute to creating a cohesive new neighbourhood.

The scheme seeks to engage with the challenges of the climate emergency. Rain gardens within the public realm contribute to stormwater management, whilst the integration of existing mature trees with diverse new planting contributes to biodiversity and urban greening and provides enhanced resilience to climate change.

The design also includes improvements to the existing public realm along New Kent Road to the north. Previously an unwelcome vehicle-dominated street, the retention of mature plane trees within newly planted areas alongside generous footways and cycle routes transforms the pedestrian experience of the space.
