The Park within Elephant Park wins NLA Placemaking Award

Gillespies is delighted to announce that the Park within Elephant Park has been named the winner of the Placemaking category at the 2021 New London Architecture. The accolade is awarded to a project that demonstrates a wider contribution to placemaking, improving the social, cultural and economic character of the local area.

International Judge and long-time architecture critic Andreas Ruby said the project “should be lauded and awarded as a peacemaker. It is original, unique and daring.”

Positioned at the heart of the ground-breaking revitalisation of Elephant and Castle by Lendlease and Southwark Council, the 2-acre is an inclusive and sustainable community space featuring expansive lawns, colourful rain gardens, and the landmark water playscape, Elephant Springs, and pedestrian walkways nestled within naturalistic planting. The park offers everyone living, visiting or working in the area unique and unforgettable social and recreational experiences and an opportunity to slow down, relax and connect with nature.
