Planning Permission Is Granted For The Public Realm Of Mediacity:UK

Gillespies and developers PEEL have been granted planning permission for the public spaces of their ambitious £400 million Mediacity:UK project at Salford Quays.

Mediacity:uk is being created across a large area of Salford Quays and will the UK’s first purpose-built media city, a creative hub to rival other media cities emerging around the world. The public spaces cover an area equivalent not just to Trafalgar Square but the whole neighbourhood between Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square.

The planning permission granted for Phase One covers approximately 11 acres of outdoor spaces which include a large-scale grand piazza with flexible performance areas (Media Square) an intimate park (Media Park), a dockside terrace and a bustling network of tree lined streets are all set adjacent to the waterfront location at Salford Quays. The dockside terrace, a series of steps between the tram line and the dock edge, will be implemented first and the whole of phase one development is set to complete in mid 2010.
