Northumberland Park re-opens following a £2.2m restoration project

Northumberland Park opens on Saturday August 8, 2015, following a multi-million pound restoration project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Big Lottery Fund (BIG).

The improvements will be celebrated by a family event in the park, which coincides with the 130-year anniversary of the original opening of Northumberland Park by the Duke of Northumberland on August 11, 1885.

The reinvented park offers enhanced woodland areas, formal gardens and the reinstatement and restoration of lost features, such as the Victorian-style bandstand, the fountain and street furniture in the park, as well as creating a new community pavilion and visitor facilities to support the park's long-term future.

This much-loved historic park once again provides an attractive, welcoming green space for the people of Tynemouth and North Shields.
