Competition win: River Moscow for Project Meganom and Gillespies

A team led by Project Meganom of Moscow and Gillespies has won the International competition for the future redesign of The River through the City of Moscow.

In announcing the competition earlier this year, Moscow City Government stressed the importance of creating a holistic concept for the development of the river and the river banks. This was to enable its transformation from a barrier in the city, to a water system and waterfront of international quality.

The competition-winning team is:

    Project Meganom (Russia)
    Gillespies (UK)
    Strategy Partners (Russia)
    Systematica (Italy)
JTP / John Thompson & Partners (UK)
    Cushman & Wakefield (Russia)

Speaking from Moscow last week, Gillespies Partner, Brian Evans said:

"We are delighted to announce that Project Meganom and Gillespies have won this prestigious International competition.  Our strategy envisages a series of new ‘ports’ at strategic points along The River interlinked with an ecological and landscape strategy for the future quality of The River itself."

This successful competition entry builds on Gillespies' many years of experience in Russia and Central Europe. This includes several international design competitions in Russia, including winning the international masterplanning competition to extend the city of Moscow together with a multi-disciplinary design team, and winning the landscape design competition for Park Russia near Moscow.
