Southall Waterside will transform the former Southall Gasworks — an 88-acre brownfield site in The London Borough of Ealing — into a new residential-led mixed-use scheme, creating a much more diverse residential and commercial offer for Southall.
Gillespies has been appointed by St James, part of Berkeley Group, to deliver landscape designs for Phase A of the Southall Waterside Masterplan. The revised masterplan creates a new mixed-use destination comprising some 3,750 new homes, along with up to 500,000 square feet of commercial space and 3 hectares of landscaped public realm and parkland.
Over half the site is dedicated to open space, which includes a substantial amount of public parklands, leisure and play spaces and piazzas.
Phase A will also see the creation of several semi‑private courtyards providing safe and secure green amenity space and play for its visitors and residents, alongside a network of safe cycle paths and walkways that will improve connections to the bordering Minet Country Park, and a more generous public realm next to the Grand Union Canal. The landscape design will both complement and enhance the rich culture and heritage of Southall.
