View project intro

Gillespies was commissioned by Arcadis, on behalf of Hambleton District Council, to analyse current spatial issues and opportunities within the town centre, providing direction for potential rejuvenating developments to enhance the high street and surrounding areas. This has involved strategically assessing the central area to determine potential spatial transformations relating to town centre living, placemaking, connectivity and green blue infrastructure in order to create a more diverse and cohesive environment.

A spatial masterplan has been developed with the ambitions to establish a new creative quarter in a currently underutilised area of the town centre, focusing on improving connectivity through the town and providing flexible spaces for pop-up stores, informal food and drinks areas and town centre living.

Shop front improvements have also been proposed for a prominent section of divisive frontages along Northallerton high street, which will be uniform and in keeping with the traditional architectural character of the area.

Gillespies' input in this commission has been instrumental in helping the Council secure both Heritage Action Zone funding and Future High Street Fund.
