Tom's bio
Tom Walker is a Chartered Landscape Architect and Urban Designer, and a Partner at Gillespies where he leads the Leeds studio. With over 35 years of professional experience, Tom has worked across the full spectrum of landscape architecture, urban design, and landscape planning, delivering high-impact landscape design and public realm projects across the north of England, Ireland and the Middle East.
His expertise includes urban visioning, strategic frameworks, masterplanning, planning policy development, and detailed public realm and landscape design. Tom’s strategic thinking is complemented by hands-on delivery, and he has served as an expert witness in planning inquiries for major developments.
Tom’s portfolio spans a wide range of sectors including office campuses, residential masterplans, visitor destinations, zoos, leisure and tourism developments, and public transport infrastructure. He has a proven track record of delivering context-sensitive, human-scaled environments that balance functionality, identity and long-term value. Notable projects include the regeneration of Northampton Market Square, a landscape masterplan for Barnsley West and The Grasslands Habitat and Chester Zoo.
A passionate advocate for design quality and professional development, Tom serves on the Design Yorkshire Design Review Advisory Panel. He actively supports the next generation of designers through his longstanding involvement with Leeds Beckett University’s landscape and urban design programmes, participating in student recruitment, crits and guest lectures. He also proudly serves as a Landscape Institute Ambassador.
