Jim Gibson

Jim Gibson is Regional Partner of Gillespies’ Manchester studio and a highly experienced landscape architect with over 30 years at the firm. He leads the landscape and environmental planning work across the North, as well as the studio’s business operations.

Jim is highly experienced in landscape design, masterplanning, and landscape planning across all major sectors. Renowned for his ability to balance ambitious vision with practical delivery, he is a trusted advisor to clients and collaborators alike.

Jim is committed to delivering sustainable design solutions and creating natural environments that support health and wellbeing and foster social interaction. He has been pivotal in steering Gillespies’ approach to sustainable design and has been spearheading the firm’s internal carbon assessment.

As the practice’s registered assessor with the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), he is skilled in delivering complex landscape and visual impact assessments for major infrastructure and development projects, including overhead transmission and distribution lines, wind farms, pipelines, highways, airports and new built town and city developments.

Jim’s leadership was instrumental in the transformation of Salford’s docklands into MediaCityUK, a global media hub and vibrant public realm that stands as a benchmark for sustainable urban regeneration.
