Helen's bio
Helen Johnson is a Chartered Landscape Architect with over 25 years of professional experience, specialising in landscape planning for the past 15 years. She is a recognised expert in landscape and visual impact assessment (LVIA), environmental impact assessment (EIA), and strategic landscape planning for major infrastructure and energy developments.
Helen has played a central role in Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs), including electricity transmission and renewable energy schemes, across England and Wales. Her experience spans a wide range of sectors, including transport (highways and light rail), energy and water (distribution, transmission, and flood alleviation), and regeneration and restoration projects (urban realm and public parks).
She recently served as EOC Landscape Project Manager for HS2 Phase 2B and has delivered landscape sensitivity and capacity studies to support residential site allocations and development frameworks. With a strong track record in navigating complex planning processes, Helen combines technical rigour with strategic thinking to inform sustainable, landscape-led development.
Helen is also highly skilled in stakeholder and community engagement, particularly in sensitive and contentious planning contexts, building trust and achieving balanced outcomes that reflect environmental and social priorities.
In 2024, Helen was promoted to an Associate Partner in recognition of her hard work and commitment.
Notable projects include National Grid's Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement project, assessment of a proposed candidate area for a new National Park in Wales; and the North West Connection project in Anglesey and North Gwynedd, where Helen supported the development of a new high-voltage transmission line to connect Horizon Nuclear Power’s proposed Wylfa Newydd nuclear station.
