Emily's bio
Emily Sutherland is a passionate Senior Landscape Architect, with a wealth of experience in designing and delivering impactful residential and mixed-use projects across the UK.
Since joining Gillespies' London studio in 2018, Emily has been integral to the regeneration of several gasholder sites across London, including Fulham (now known as King's Road Park), Bethnal Green and Lea Bridge. These projects, which involved transforming brownfield sites through rewilding and sustainable design, required navigating complex challenges to create vibrant new communities.
Emily has also led the construction of Bankside Yards, a transformative public realm project that is revitalising a long-inaccessible site along the River Thames into a vibrant cultural hub. Thoughtfully designed connections will unite Bankside, Tate Modern, and the South Bank's cultural landmarks, bridging a century-long separation and enhancing the area's cultural vitality.
One of Emily’s core passions is planting design, where she plays a vital role as a key member of Gillespies' specialist softworks team. Her dedication to creating high-quality, sustainable planting solutions is evident in every project she contributes to.
In 2022, Emily achieved Chartered Member status with the Landscape Institute (CMLI) after completing the Pathway to Chartership (P2C) programme, reinforcing her commitment to excellence and industry-leading standards.
