Wapping Wharf Phase One scoops residential award at the 2017 Michelmore Property Awards

The first phase of Wapping Wharf, a vibrant harbourside quarter in Bristol, has been awarded ‘best residential project for over 41 units’ at the Michelmore Property Awards in Exeter.

The scheme involves the transformation of previously derelict land to the south of Bristol’s iconic floating harbour into a new, community-focused residential quarter. The first phase provides 194 residential units and approximately 900 square metres of retail and leisure space.

Gillespies was responsible for developing the masterplan and in particular the design of a high-quality public realm together with residential courtyards and a public square. The introduction of Gaol Ferry Steps, a pedestrianised, tree-lined walkway that runs through the heart of the neighbourhood, connects South Bristol and the City Centre.

Once complete, Wapping Wharf will feature over 600 new homes, along with independent restaurants, cafes and shops.
