Trafford Waters development given the green light by Trafford Council

Trafford Council unanimously granted planning permission for the 1 billion pound Trafford Waters development last night. Situated on 50 acres of land along the banks of Manchester Ship Canal in Trafford, the proposed development will create a new vibrant, sustainable and high density neighbourhood providing 3,000 new homes together with 100,000 square feet of commercial space, a new primary school, leisure and community facilities, and substantial improvements to the immediate public realm and transport infrastructure.

With an expansive new landscape and public realm infrastructure essential for the success of the scheme, Gillespies were appointed as project landscape architects by Peel Land & Property to masterplan the comprehensive landscape strategy for this high profile new neighbourhood.

The new landscape strategy will provide a high proportion of high-quality and multi-functional open spaces with green corridors and waterways throughout the site to define pedestrian routes, ensuring the site is integrated, attractive and connected with its local neighbourhood. This sustainable new neighbourhood will provide streets, boulevards, cycleways and footways and a green-blue infrastructure including new water bodies, parks, squares, playgrounds, shared streets and attractive well-maintained civic environments delivering site-wide sustainable drainage solutions.

Once complete, Trafford Waters will be one of the largest urban regeneration projects in the city region.
