Three new visions unveiled for the revival of Northampton Market Square

To support Northampton Borough Councils bid for the government’s Future High Street Fund, a £675million fund to support the nation’s struggling high streets, a strategic high level masterplan was undertaken by 5plus architects to regenerate Northampton Town Centre. The masterplan identified a range of urban design opportunities and priorities, including the renewal of the historic Market Square in the heart of the Town Centre.

Gillespies has developed a series of emerging design options that revive this much-loved town square and reposition it as a vibrant destination and a focal point for the community.

Each vision creates a vibrant new heart for the town centre, using a number of key components within a variety of different arrangements. The proposed redesign includes stepped seating, semi-mature trees, event and performance spaces, an interactive water feature, café and restaurant spill-out areas, high-quality seating and new positions for market stalls.

The three options will now be presented to the public during a six-week consultation period in a bid to get people's thoughts on the plans and its various components.
