Reserved Matters Consent granted for Axiom Retail and Leisure Centre and Country Park in West Yorkshire

Wakefield Council has granted Reserved Matters Consent for a new 24-acre Country Park near Castleford in West Yorkshire, designed by Gillespies.

The proposed park will provide 20 acres of new woodlands and 7.9 acres of wetlands that will help transform the area into a significant wildlife haven and community resource. A sculptural landscape character will be defined through a series of angular mounds that create viewing platforms over the park, sensitively integrating the development into the existing area. The new park will offer over 5km of walking trails and cycleways, picnic areas, and informal play areas with the potential to host a wide range of events.

The Country Park will be connected to a large 54,000 m2 Axiom shopping and entertainment development designed by Chapman Taylor for client Lateral Group, which will include 75 retail, restaurant and leisure units, as well as a 10,245-capacity community stadium for the Castleford Tigers, designed by WMA Architects.
