Port Sunlight River Park is highly commended at the 2017 Landscape Institute Awards

Last night, Port Sunlight River Park was highly commended at the 2017 Landscape Institute Awards ceremony that took place at the Brewery in London. The community park picked up the ‘Adding Value Through Landscape’ award that celebrates projects that showcase how landscape design has been the driver of improved cultural, social, economic or learning benefits to a community or business.

Gillespies was commissioned by national management charity The Land Trust to dramatically transform the closed landfill site - which overlooks the Mersey and Wirral Estuary - into a 30-hectare wildlife haven and accessible community park. Gillespies’ designs placed strong emphasis on access to nature, incorporating a variety of wildlife habitats together with an array of walkways and picnic spots.

Autism Together Landscape (formally Wirral Austic Society), a voluntary charitable organisation have taken control of the park with the aim of conserving, enhance and promote the park for the benefit of the community.

The Landscape Institute Awards are presented annually to encourage and recognise outstanding examples of work by the landscape profession.
