Plans submitted for the regeneration of the Convent Way Estate in west London

Gillespies has supported Bell Philips Architects in submitting a hybrid planning application for the landscape-led regeneration of the 1960s Convent Way Estate in west London.

The proposals for the London Borough of Hounslow will create a sustainable neighbourhood providing up to 967 new homes built to Passivhaus standards, generous public realm and shared amenity spaces connected via a green and blue ecological loop, a new local retail and community heart, and improved connectivity through the creation of a new neighbourhood lane.

The landscape-led approach for Convent Way has used the existing adjacent area of Green Belt as a catalyst to create distinct neighbourhoods that are positioned around a series of attractive green communal spaces, connected by a high-quality public realm that celebrates the existing mature trees and green aspect to the south.

With 85% of the resident ballot favouring the regeneration, the estate will transform in phases to ensure that existing residents will only move once into a new home. Each phase of the development has been designed in direct response to discussions with residents during a series of successful consultations and will provide a range of homes to meet different needs alongside new parks and play to ensure easy access for all.

Armel Mourgue, Partner and landscape lead at Gillespies, commented: “Convent Way is a great example of estate regeneration where landscape is thought of early. The landscape framework we have created will not only unlock the underused existing green spaces but also create a more connected green network for people and wildlife that will reach far beyond Convent Way, thereby benefiting many more communities living nearby.”
