Plans submitted for redevelopment of Slough town centre
Plans have been submitted for the multi-million-pound redevelopment of the Queensmere Observatory Shopping Centre in Slough.
The scheme, known as Slough Central, will be one of the UK's largest-ever town centre transformations, delivering new 1,600 new homes, including high-quality workspaces, shops, bars, restaurants, community spaces and public realm enhancements that will bring investment and activity to the heart of Slough town centre. The mixed-use development is being brought forward by British Land, in the role of Development Manager.
Gillespies' emerging public realm proposals will improve permeability and activity across Slough through the creation of 4.5 acres of new, improved public spaces, including an urban park, a vibrant town square with active edges, new pedestrian and cycle routes, and the reinstatement of a number of historic routes across the town centre.
Subject to obtaining planning consent, the demolition of the Queensmere Shopping Centre could commence in late 2023 with the first phase of development, which includes the new town square and c.600 homes, delivered in 2026.
