Plans submitted for Michigan Avenue at MediaCityUK

Gillespies have supported the submission of an outline planning application for a new residential-led mixed-use development to the east of MediaCityUK at Michigan Avenue.

Designed by Jeffrey Bell Architects, the application is unusual in that it presents several masterplan solutions that range between three taller towers and five smaller towers, offering a mix of residential apartments, student accommodation and co-living units, with each scheme accommodating up to 1,500 residential units.

For each individual scheme, Gillespies’ public realm proposals create a distinctive and revitalised urban quarter with new streets and public spaces that will establish a walkable neighbourhood providing more direct and seamless connections to MediaCityUK and the surrounding neighbourhoods. The new landscape and public realm planned at Michigan Avenue will complement the high-quality landscape at MediaCityUK that was also designed by Gillespies.

To consider potential development scale and massing, Gillespies' landscape planning team prepared 8 viewpoints studies for each of the six masterplan options.
