Planning secured for an ambitious PBSA-led mixed-use development in Park Royal, West London
Gillespies, in partnership with Maccreanor Lavington Architects, has secured planning approval for the Park Royal Road project, a complex PBSA-led mixed-use development in the Old Oak Park Development Area of West London. This transformative scheme aims to significantly enhance the Park Royal Road area by delivering 888 purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) units, over 2,000m² of modern workspace, and 32 affordable homes. Central to the project is a revitalised public realm featuring innovative roof-level landscapes designed by Gillespies.
Spanning two strategically located sites on either side of Park Royal Road, just north of North Acton Town Centre, the design of the two proposed buildings creates an opportunity for a series of elevated landscaped terraces. Each terrace is meticulously crafted to suit its distinct environmental conditions and internal functions, resulting in a diverse collection of lush, green spaces. These terraces are designed to enhance connectivity among students, residents, and workers, supporting various activities and fostering meaningful interactions with nature.
Our landscape proposals play a pivotal role in this vision, navigating complex site constraints to create accessible, visually appealing spaces. The innovative roof-level landscapes and extensive greening initiatives are designed to boost local biodiversity while providing dynamic environments for relaxation, play and social engagement. The project will also revitalise the area with engaging urban street frontages and improved active travel connections.
