Mount Road scheme consultation launches
Public consultation has been launched for a scheme led by Greater Manchester Youth Federation (GMYF) and Centrepoint to turn Mellands playing fields in Gorton, Greater Manchester, into sporting facilities and 282 homes.
Gillespies is the masterplanner and landscape architect in close collaboration with Kellen Homes. The scheme includes landscape enhancements to support wildlife and increase biodiversity, and establishes a clear street hierarchy to improve walking and cycling routes and encourage sustainable travel.
The proposals for the site include:
- Two new grass football pitches and changing facilities for use by charity Greater Manchester Youth Federation (GMYF) and local clubs
- New youth, sports and community hub buildings, for GMYF’s programme of activities and local community groups
- 36 independent living apartments to be operated by youth homelessness charity Centrepoint, for young adults leaving the care system
- 246 new homes including affordable housing, delivered by Kellen Homes
The consultation lasts until 6 June. There is more information at www.mellands-consultation.co.uk
