Mayfield Parks wins a coveted Green Flag Award
Manchester’s Mayfield Park has received a prestigious Green Flag Award with judges declaring they had “never seen such an outstanding urban park in 20+ years of judging”.
Mayfield Park is the city’s first new park in 100 years, and the award acknowledges its exceptional design and management.
Gillespies played a pivotal role in bringing this project to life, transforming the vision crafted by London’s Studio Egret West into reality. We developed the construction tender and supervised the on-site delivery, turning an underutilised brownfield space into a vibrant green haven. The River Medlock, concealed in a concrete culvert for 50 years, has been uncovered and now gracefully meanders through the park, enhanced by innovative bio-engineered slopes.
Established in the UK over 25 years ago by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, the coveted Green Flag Award celebrates the achievements of parks and green spaces in 17 countries across the world.

Congratulations to The Mayfield Partnership (LandsecU+I, LCR, Manchester City Council & Transport for Greater Manchester) and the wider team including Studio Egret West, PP O'Connor, Civic Engineers and Buro Happold.
