International competition win for Astana Masterplan 2025

Gillespies has won an international competition to produce a comprehensive Terms of Reference for the 2025 Astana Master Plan in independent Kazakhstan.

The terms of reference will form the foundations of a brief for the future Astana Master Plan that will set out to improve the quality of life of its residents, strengthen the interaction between the municipality authorities, citizens and businesses, as well as providing necessary infrastructure, services and public spaces to accommodate the sustainable long-term development of the city over the next eight years. 

Gillespies’ proposed terms of reference focus on the physical, socio-economical and sustainability factors that will facilitate the cities future growth. The proposed methodology takes into account transport infrastructure, climatic conditions, existing architecture and potential investment, producing a single holistic and robust vision of what Astana could become in the future.
